Defend a Free Press
A free press has a vital role to play in ensuring that HS2 operations are exposed to public scrutiny ( see these examples at Wendover and Chalfont St Giles ). Forcing a choice between risking bankruptcy, and regulation by an organisation funded by Max Mosely, could put an end to press freedom and investigative journalism in the UK.
Consultation
The government are consulting on Leveson phase 2 and Section 40, until 10th January. See this article for more details. The official response form is here, and a ready made response can be submitted from #FreethePress.
Pylons in the Lake District
(From Friends of the Lake District) :-
The chosen route for cables in National Grid’s consultation document risks damaging the National Park and its setting. We have significant concerns about the damage to the landscape that this route would cause because it:
- Routes large-scale overhead power lines directly adjacent to the National Park
- Increases the landscape damage from significantly larger pylons very close to the National Park
- Puts construction costs ahead of landscape impacts on the National Park
For these reasons we are OPPOSED to the route through the Whicham Valley and around the Duddon Estuary as laid out in the consultation.
You can submit a letter of complaint using this page - by 6th January ! Help protect all AONBs & Parks.
High Speed UK petition
Don't forget the High Speed UK petition, calling for an immediate technical review into the HS2 scheme.
