A personal message from Penny Gaines, chair of Stop HS2,
and Deanne DuKhan, director AGAHST † -
Dear Action Group Supporters,
Firstly, thank you for all the help and support you have given your local action group, AGAHST and the Stop HS2 campaign.
What we have done together has been amazing. The latest opinion poll shows that 55% of the public think HS2 shouldn't be built, organisations ranging from the Institute of Directors to the New Economics Foundation say its a bad project, and senior politicians from across the political spectrum are against HS2.
That's down to the things you have done - going on demonstrations, signing petitions, fundraising, writing to MPs - everything has helped.
But HS2 is not stopped yet.
The Government know they are losing the battle for public opinion which is why they are now launching an HS2 offensive. Over the next few days and weeks, you will see newspaper articles and TV appearances from politicians and business tycoons saying how wonderful HS2 will be. But they will mostly repeat the same tired arguments as they've previously used, so on http://stophs2.org/news/8000-hs2-myths we've listed why these arguments are wrong.
Your local action group needs your continued support to help Stop HS2, AGAHST, HS2AA and the other organisations opposed to HS2. So when your Local Action Group asks you to do something - whether its answer the Phase 2 consultation, help fund the party conferences or support a stand at a local event - please see what you can do.
A campaign like Stop HS2 campaign relies on vocal opposition from people like you. What you do makes a difference.
Together we can stop HS2.
Penny Gaines, chair of Stop HS2
Deanne DuKhan, director AGAHST
